Trump Ally: Gabbard Rift Over Iran Was ‘Setup’ By Intelligence Community

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has been under fire in the media, and rumors are circulating that she has been frozen out of important decision-making at the White House.

But retired Army Lt. General Michael Flynn, who briefly served as President Donald Trump’s national security adviser during his first term and who also served as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency under then-President Barack Obama, says Gabbard was “set up” by the intelligence community.

His claim comes after media reports this week began highlighting her testimony to Congress in March, where she said that Iran was not working on a nuclear weapon.

In an interview with conservative podcaster Benny Johnson, Flynn suggested that Gabbard had been given false or incomplete information by the intelligence community ahead of her congressional testimony.

“I believe that particular testimony, where she talked about Iran not having nuclear weapons, to me… and I believe this, I’ll say it here: That was a setup,” he said. “She’s only a couple of weeks into the job. She’s taken what the intel, the smartest people in our intelligence community, say about something, and she presents it. Until she can get in and figure out what’s going on and build a team around her that she can trust… Below the level of people at the top — the Cabinet officials, the couple of people who were put into the jobs — most of those people were put in by Obama, and then they were strengthened by the Biden administration.”

“I’m trying to do my part to help them,” the general said. “Tulsi Gabbard is effective.”

In her March 25 testimony to a Senate panel, Gabbard said, “The (intelligence community) continues to assess that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon.”

The part of the testimony that many in the media have ignored is when she added this caveat: “Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile is at its highest levels and is unprecedented for a state without nuclear weapons.”

“Iran will likely continue efforts to counter Israel and press for U.S. military withdrawal from the region by aiding, arming and helping to reconstitute its loose consortium of like-minded terrorist actors, which it refers to as its axis of resistance,” she added.

In a post on X on Friday, Gabbard further clarified that her comments were “taken out of context” by media reports.

“The dishonest media is intentionally taking my testimony out of context and spreading fake news as a way to manufacture division. America has intelligence that Iran is at the point that it can produce a nuclear weapon within weeks to months, if they decide to finalize the assembly. President Trump has been clear that can’t happen, and I agree,” she said in the post that also contained a video of her complete testimony.

Her clarification came after President Donald Trump told the media that Gabbard was “wrong” in her assessment of Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

“She’s wrong,” the president said on Friday when he was asked about Gabbard’s March testimony. “My intelligence community is wrong.”

Vice President JD Vance has also come to Gabbard’s defense, saying she remains a “critical” part of the president’s national security team.

“DNI Gabbard is a veteran, a patriot, a loyal supporter of President Trump and a critical part of the coalition he built in 2024,” he told Fox News Digital on Wednesday.
