While the world is fighting against child labor and while in every corner of the civilized world it is illegal, there are still regions in India where legislation allows children to work in harmless industries. Bangladesh-based photographer GMB Akash for already 20 years has been trying to spread awareness about some serious social issues like child labor through his art.
His photos are not just for aesthetic pleasure but also address problems the world is currently facing and encourages people to make a change and act on it to help children have a perspective for education and a brighter future.
Photography is one of the best ways to make your voice louder and a faultless opportunity to be heard. And Akash has dedicated his time and effort to bring a better change into people’s lives. In his project, He documented the harsh reality that children have to face. Akash has been able to help lots of children through his photography and got many of them from their illegal workplaces and helped them enter schools. However, there are still more than four million kids that need help.
In his, before and after photos Akash shows the difference between a working child and the same child already in class holding books in his hands. And we must say that these are completely different persons. His photos prove once again that children’s role in society should be limited to memorable childhood and the possibility for a shiny future.
Unfortunately, child labor is not the only problem in Bangladesh and there is still so much to do to ensure a better life for people living here, and we do sincerely hope that Akash’s voice will be heard and more enthusiasts will join him in the selfless act of raising awareness and fighting against such destructive social issues.
