King Charles To Welcome Trump In Rare Visit To Windsor Castle

King Charles is set to host President Donald Trump at Windsor Castle in September for his second state visit to the United Kingdom.

The 76-year-old monarch extended the rare invitation to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump earlier this year, following Trump’s election victory. According to reports, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer personally delivered the King’s letter to Trump.

However, The Times of London reports that Starmer has overridden the King’s original timeline by moving the high-profile visit up by several months.

Charles, who also serves as the monarch of Canada, had initially extended an invitation for President Trump to meet at either Balmoral Castle or Dumfries House in Scotland, said the media outlet.

After palace officials reviewed all options for Trump’s upcoming state visit, plans were reportedly revised to ensure the occasion would be strictly formal. Preparations for the official state visit are now underway, with a hand-signed formal invitation—known as the Manu Regia—from Charles delivered to Trump at the White House last week.

“His Majesty has known President Trump for many years and looks forward to hosting him and the First Lady later this year,” a palace aide told the outlet.

While the exact dates of President Trump’s state visit have yet to be confirmed, September is currently the most likely timeframe. In February, Prime Minister Keir Starmer personally presented Trump with Charles’s royal invitation during a meeting in the Oval Office, which the president accepted without hesitation, the report said.

“This is really special. This has never happened before. This is unprecedented, and I think that just symbolizes the strength of the relationship between us,” Starmer said, calling the last state visit a “tremendous success.”

“The answer is yes,” Trump responded. “On behalf of our wonderful first lady, Melania, and myself, the answer is yes, and we look forward to being there and honoring the King and honoring, really, your country.”

“Your country is a fantastic country, and it’ll be our honor to be there,” he added.

Trade tensions between the United States and Canada have continued to complicate matters, however.

Following Trump’s remark suggesting Canada could become the 51st state, Charles made a pointed visit to Canada, where he delivered a subtle rebuke, affirming that the nation remains “strong and free.”

Charles, traveling at taxpayers’ expense, delivered a stern address on May 27 as he formally opened Canada’s new parliamentary session.

The appearance marked a historic moment: the first time a reigning monarch has opened a new Canadian Parliament since 1857.

Following Trump’s inauguration in January, reports emerged that senior members of the royal family were being considered for an official visit to the United States. While discussions are still in the early stages, insiders suggest that the high-level royal visit is likely to take place in 2026.

Trump has frequently expressed his admiration for the royal family, stating in March that he “loves King Charles.”

Queen Elizabeth II hosted Trump for his first state visit in 2019, making him just the third U.S. president to receive such an invitation during her 70-year reign. Notably, no elected leader has ever been granted two state visits by the United Kingdom.

Only two former heads of state have previously received the distinction: Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, in 1974 and again in 2000, and King Olav of Norway, in 1962 and 1988.

On Friday, Trump announced that the U.S. was terminating all trade talks with Canada after the country imposed a new tax on American firms.

“We have just been informed that Canada, a very difficult Country to TRADE with, including the fact that they have charged our Farmers as much as 400% Tariffs, for years, on Dairy Products, has just announced that they are putting a Digital Services Tax on our American Technology Companies, which is a direct and blatant attack on our Country,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social page.
