CNN’s Cooper Forced To Evacuate to Bomb Shelter During Live Segment

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper and several colleagues were forced to evacuate to a bomb shelter live on-air Sunday after receiving an alert about an imminent Iranian missile strike.

Cooper was speaking with CNN chief international correspondent Clarissa Ward and Jerusalem correspondent Jeremy Diamond when a loud siren sounded at 3:02 a.m. local time in Tel Aviv, prompting the urgent evacuation.

“These are the alerts that go out on all of our phones when you’re in Israel. It’s a 10-minute warning of incoming missiles, or something, incoming from Iran,” Cooper told his viewers.

He then reported that the location he was broadcasting from had received a “verbal alarm,” instructing everyone in the area to immediately take shelter in a bomb shelter.

“We have about a 10-minute window to get down into a bomb shelter, and we’ll continue to try to broadcast from that bomb shelter, and even if we can, on the way down,” Cooper added.

“Should we go down?” Ward then asked Cooper. “We should probably go down,” the host responded. Ward quickly agreed, and by 3:05 a.m., the trio began removing their microphones to head to the shelter.

As he walked and spoke to the camera, Cooper remarked that bomb alerts and shelter protocols were “obviously something that many here in Tel Aviv have gotten used to.” The missile threat came just hours after U.S. B-2 bombers targeted three Iranian facilities involved in nuclear weapons development.

President Donald Trump said Monday night that he expects the new ceasefire he brokered between Israel and Iran will bring an end to all military hostilities between the two nations.

“I think the ceasefire is unlimited. It is going to go forever,” Trump said in a phone interview, NBC News reported.

Asked if the war was now completely over, Trump replied, “Yes. I do not believe they will ever be shooting at each other again.”

Trump announced on Truth Social that both countries had agreed to a ceasefire, which would roll out in stages over the next 24 hours. A diplomat briefed on the talks told NBC News that Trump and Vice President JD Vance secured the deal with key assistance from top Qatari leaders, who presented the ceasefire proposal to Iran.

According to a senior White House official, Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, “No more war, no more fighting. The Iranians have been significantly weakened.”

As Trump spoke to Israeli leaders from the Oval Office, his national security team was relaying messages to Iranian officials through intermediaries, the senior official said.

The official added that after Trump convinced Netanyahu to agree to the deal, Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and special envoy Steve Witkoff delivered the U.S. position to the Iranians, “both directly and indirectly,” signaling that the United States wanted the ceasefire to go forward.

The phased-in approach — in which Iran would stop firing for 12 hours first, followed by Israel halting fire for another 12 hours — was Trump’s idea to ease Israeli concerns that Iran might not uphold the agreement, the official said.

Another source familiar with the foreign outreach told NBC News that Trump personally called Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, earlier Monday and said he could get Israel to agree to a ceasefire if Qatar could persuade Iran to come on board. The source said Qatar’s prime minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, then coordinated efforts with Vance and spoke directly to the Iranians.
