Biden-Era TSA Security Program Used Against Political Opponents: DHS

The Department of Homeland Security has uncovered yet another Biden-era scandal, this one involving the Transportation Security Administration.

According to a press release from DHS this week, the department provided evidence showing the politicization of TSA’s watchlisting program during the Biden administration.

Recently uncovered documents, correspondence, and timelines reveal the Biden administration’s inconsistent use of the Silent Partners, Quiet Skies, and watchlisting programs—allegedly bypassing established security protocols to favor politically connected allies and family members, potentially compromising public safety, the department said in its release.

This includes William “Billy” Shaheen, husband of Democratic U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, who was reportedly excluded from surveillance protocols, while political opponents such as Tulsi Gabbard, now serving as President Trump’s director of national intelligence, were monitored just months later.

After direct lobbying from Sen. Shaheen, former TSA Administrator David Pekoske repeatedly issued explicit instructions to exclude William Shaheen from the Silent Partners Quiet Skies watchlist. Despite Shaheen having flown on three separate occasions with an individual classified as a Known or Suspected Terrorist, Pekoske granted him a blanket exemption from the program.

Meanwhile, Gabbard and numerous other Americans were placed on the watchlist with minimal transparency, little to no explanation, and a lack of proper oversight, the DHS press release added.

Billy Shaheen was far from the only high-profile figure granted exclusion from the watchlist. Others included members of foreign royal families, political elites, professional athletes, and journalists. Shaheen’s blanket exemption has since been revoked, said the department.

“It is clear that this program was used as a political rolodex of the Biden Administration—weaponized against its political foes and to benefit their well-heeled friends,” said DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. “This program should have been about the equal application of security, instead it was corrupted to be about political targeting.

“The Trump Administration will restore the integrity, privacy, and equal application of the law for all Americans, including aviation screening,” she added, per the press release.

President Donald Trump, meanwhile, signed a sweeping order Wednesday evening blocking travel to the U.S. from nearly 20 countries identified as high-risk for terrorism, visa abuse, and failure to share security information.

The new travel restrictions — announced under Executive Order 14161 — apply to nationals from 12 countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia, Libya, and Yemen, all deemed “very high risk” due to terrorist activity, weak or hostile governments, and high visa overstay rates.

Citizens from another seven countries, including Venezuela, Cuba, and Laos, are under partial travel restrictions, Fox News reported.

“President Trump is fulfilling his promise to protect Americans from dangerous foreign actors that want to come to our country and cause us harm,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson told the outlet.

She called the restrictions “common sense” and were aimed at countries that “lack proper vetting, exhibit high visa overstay rates, or fail to share identity and threat information.”

In a video posted to social media, Trump addressed a recent terror incident involving a man who overstayed his visa.

“The recent terror attack in Boulder, Colorado, has underscored the extreme dangers posed to our country by the entry of foreign nationals who are not properly vetted, as well as those who come here as temporary visitors and overstay their visas. We don’t want them,” Trump said.

“In the 21st century, we’ve seen one terror attack after another carried out by foreign visa overstayers from dangerous places all over the world,” he added. “Thanks to Biden’s open-door policies, today there are millions and millions of these illegals who should not be in our country.”

“The list is subject to revision based on whether material improvements are made,” the president added. “And likewise, new countries can be added as threats emerge around the world, but we will not allow people to enter our country who wish to do us harm, and nothing will stop us from keeping America safe.”
