Trump Confirms Top Iranian Commanders Killed In Israeli Attack

President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday that several top Iranian military commanders were killed in an overnight strike by Israel on the country’s nuclear weapons infrastructure.

In a statement to CNN, Trump told host Dana Bash when she pressed him for specifics that the commanders didn’t “die of Covid” or “the flu,” alluding to Israel’s overwhelming response after the president’s team tried for weeks to reach a nuclear deal with Iran that redirected efforts away from making weapons and instead focused on civilian nuclear power generation.

Trump also addressed the Iranian situation and the Israeli attack on his Truth Social platform, writing:

I gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal. I told them, in the strongest of words, to “just do it,” but no matter how hard they tried, no matter how close they got, they just couldn’t get it done. I told them it would be much worse than anything they know, anticipated, or were told, that the United States makes the best and most lethal military equipment anywhere in the World, BY FAR, and that Israel has a lot of it, with much more to come – And they know how to use it.

Certain Iranian hardliner’s spoke bravely, but they didn’t know what was about to happen. They are all DEAD now, and it will only get worse! There has already been great death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter, with the next already planned attacks being even more brutal, come to an end. Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire. No more death, no more destruction, JUST DO IT, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. God Bless You All!

Israel launched what it is calling “Operation Rising Lion” overnight, mostly targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and its top military leadership, which Tehran announced Friday had already been replaced.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that Israel acted unilaterally, stating the U.S. was not involved in the strikes, Fox News reported.

Iran carried out a drone counterattack, while Israel stated that the strikes were merely the initial phase of a larger operation aimed at inhibiting Iran’s nuclear aspirations.

Iran’s foreign minister called the attacks a “declaration of war” and claimed the U.S. was involved. Israel’s “aggression against Iran could not have been carried out without the coordination and approval of the United States,” Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi said.

“Consequently, the U.S. government, as the primary patron of this regime, will also bear responsibility for the dangerous repercussions of the Zionist regime’s reckless actions,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry added in a statement Friday.

Other countries also reacted to the attacks.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expresses its strong condemnation and denunciation of the blatant Israeli aggressions against the brotherly Islamic Republic of Iran,” the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. “These attacks undermine Iran’s sovereignty and security and constitute a clear violation of international laws and norms.”

Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan spoke with Araghchi, stating, “His Highness affirmed the Kingdom’s rejection of the use of force and stressed the importance of dialogue to address disputes. The Israeli attack undermines efforts toward de-escalation and diplomatic solutions.”

That said, the Saudis have expressed concerns in the past over Iran’s maturing nuclear weapons program. Also, the Saudis and Iranians are regional rivals, with the former claiming it would be forced to develop its own nuclear arsenal if Iran were allowed to do so.

Other countries in the region also decried Israel’s attack. Turkey called for an immediate end to hostilities: “Israel must immediately cease its aggressive actions that could lead to broader conflicts.”
